About The Potter
I’m a Lancastrian potter who throws rugged slipware pots with candid adornment: Brisk techniques characterise creation; from the swift manipulation of red clay on the wheel-head, to the unwavering hand directing the flow of slips or sgraffito incisions. An array of slipware techniques are embraced to help strike a couth and harmonious aesthetic between form and surface decoration.
Inspiration for my craft comes from my love of making things which have a practical purpose. Dallying is not readily forgiven on a potters’ wheel and the quick movement of creation, allayed with the potter’s technique permeating the clay, imbues the pot with a quality and freshness unlike any other.
Sgraffito drawings are based on sketches from life drawing classes (“Nude Collection No.1”, "Abstract Nude”) or taken from images depicting historical events (400th Anniversary of the Pendle Witches Trial, “Chattox & Redferne 400”).
